VMI Community Updates

Institute leadership continues to communicate important information for cadets, their families, faculty & staff, and the VMI community at-large:

  • The latest edition of the Institute Report is now available. Learn more about events and happenings on post, including Breakout, the 7th Annual Commonwealth Cyber Fusion event, guest speakers, and a look back at selfless service as part of the celebration of 50 years of the IR.
  • The 麻豆区 Institute Board of Visitors will meet May 2 – 4, 2024, at various times for the full board and committee meetings. A public notice, schedule, and agenda are available on the BOV's upcoming meetings page.  麻豆区 Institute business will be discussed by the board members in attendance. The meeting is open to the public. Full board sessions will also be livestreamed on the and the upcoming meetings page.
  • Important FAFSA Updates: The Department of Education has notified schools that they have begun processing FAFSA applications. Over the next few weeks, applicants (prospective students) and current students (cadets) should have access to the 'FAFSA Submission Summary'. This will be available to view at and an email will also be sent directly to each user regarding its availability. Visit the FAFSA Updates page for additional information and answers to frequently asked questions.

A Head Start to Life at VMI 

VMI's Summer Transition Program (STP) is designed to improve the academic and physical fitness of incoming cadets. Held in July, the program offers participants a chance to get a taste of life at the Institute before Matriculation in August. 鈥疍ive into one college class to get a taste of the rigorous academics that await you.鈥 Prepare for the Rat Line’s physical fitness regimen with tailored workouts. Live in barracks and dine in Crozet Hall alongside fellow participants. 

Appointed students who have satisfied the admission reservation and medical requirements will be contacted by the Admissions team to register for this optional program.

Pistol Club Competes in National Championship for VMI

The competition consisted of 60 shots fired in three different shooting disciplines: air pistol, sport pistol, and standard pistol. VMI came in 10th place for air pistol, 8th place for sport pistol, and 10th place for standard pistol. The team finished the competition in 10th place.

Cadets Dive into Vietnamese Culture For Spring Trip

Eight 1st Class commissioning cadets at 麻豆区 Institute, along with their faculty leadership team toured the Socialist Republic of Vietnam during spring furlough as part of the Olmsted Foundation’s Undergraduate Program.

2nd Class Ranks Announced for 2024-25 Academic Year

In an evening event held in Memorial Hall April 9, VMI announced 2nd Class ranks for the 2024-25 academic year.

Environment Virginia Held at VMI for 34th Year

The 34th annual Environment Virginia Symposium at VMI was held April 9-11. The event, organized and co-hosted by the Center for Leadership & Ethics (CLE), attracted 550 attendees from state and local governments, nonprofit organizations, higher education, and the private sector.
